Pilates...
Pilates, once the preserve of dancers, performers, gymnasts and athletes, is a comprehensive exercise programme suitable for the majority of people of all ages. It is recommended by physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors alike.
The Pilates method was developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967). He was a frail child and later turned to physical fitness to improve his health. He studied a variety of different disciplines and from these he devised the Pilates method. After moving to New York in the 1920's, his studio soon attracted actors, dancers and elite athletes.
Pilates will help you to relax and concentrate. It will improve the alignment of your body and the functioning of your joints. It will correct your posture (as Joseph Pilates said: "a man is only as young as his spinal column") and restore muscle balance. It will improve your breathing and co-ordination, and increase your stamina.
